There are a lot of studies out there that tout the benefits regular massage can have to your overall health and well-being. But a new concept called Massage Green, which opened last month on San Jose Boulevard, is taking the health benefits even further. The Massage Green building itself will be certified “green” by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) — a non-profit trade organization that promotes sustainability in how buildings are designed, built and operated. The USGBC is best known for the development of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system and works to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work.

“Since most people are trying to maximize personal longevity, it made perfect sense for us to incorporate consumer health along with environmental health,” said owner Grayson Marshall. “It just made more sense. The building, the materials, the products we use…we’re keeping it green.”

Convincing people that massages are healthy has never been the problem. It’s been the cost that has challenged most. And that’s exactly what challenged the Marshalls.

“What good does it do to offer a healthier alternative if people can’t afford it?” said co-owner Darlene Marshall. “People need massages. They love massages. We’ve found a way to offer the most affordable professional massage available anywhere. And we’re doing it in a way that’s healthier for our customers, our employees and our planet.”

At Massage Green, an introductory one-hour massage session (a 50-minute massage plus time for consultation and dressing) is just $29.95 Memberships are available for $39.95 per month and include a one-hour massage session each month. Members may also enjoy unlimited additional one-hour massages at the $34.95 member rate.

Massage Green’s services include Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue/Sports Massage, Reflexology, Cranial Sacral Therapy, Trigger Point Therapy, Pregnancy Massage, Aromatherapy Massage, Hot Stone Therapy, Couples Massage, and Reiki.   “Book an appointment or just walk in,” said Grayson. “It’s all about making every visit fit your budget and schedule while delivering a soothing experience that becomes part of a healthy lifestyle.”

Massage Green is holding its grand opening Monday that includes a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open the very First Green Franchise in Jacksonville’s history.
