• Family Support Services annual holiday party for Duval and Nassau County foster children, adopted children and children living with relatives is Dec. 5 at the Jacksonville Zoo from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. To donate or volunteer at the event contact 421-5800.

• Have a favorite chef or restaurant in Jacksonville? Then reward them with a nomination in the The 2010 James Beard Foundation Restaurant and Chef Awards. Nominations can be submitted at jamesbeard.starchefs.com/awards/vote. Deadline for entries is Dec. 31 and winners will be announced May 3. Bistro Aix Executive Chef Tom Gray was a semifinalist in the “Best Chef: South” category in last year’s contest.

• Jacksonville’s Animal Care and Protective Services is hosting “A Thanksgiving Wish” Nov. 27-28 at its center at 2020 Forest St. The event will allow citizens to take home a new pet for half off the regular adoption rate. For more information call 255-7465.

• Boyd & Jenerette has added two new partners. Heather M. Bryer will practice in the workers’ compensation and employment defense department and Peter G. Shutters has joined the civil litigation department as an insurance defense attorney. Kailey M. Evans has also joined the firm as an associate after her graduation from the University of Florida School of Law in May.

• The Jacksonville Anheuser-Busch Brewery and Margaritaville Brewing Company live under the same roof. The Jimmy Buffet brew, Landshark Lager, is only made in Jacksonville.

• Speaking of Anheuser-Busch, the brewery continues to compete in the battle of the bulge. Bud Light may be one of the top selling beers in the world, but Select 55 will be its new low-calorie king. The 55-calorie beer is expected to be released nationally in February.

• One more Bud note, the Jacksonville Brewery isn’t a kid anymore–it turns 40 this year. The occasion may prompt a visit from the well-known company mascots, the clydesdales.
