• Gov. Charlie Crist approved Tuesday the appointment of Lori Rowe and Administrative Law Judge T. Kent Wetherell II of Tallahassee to the First District Court of Appeal. Rowe, 38, was appointed by Crist as deputy chief of staff in November 2006 and served as deputy transition director of the Crist/Kottkamp Transition Team. She also served in the Office of the Attorney General as director of multi-state litigation, assistant deputy attorney general and executive deputy attorney general from 2003 to 2006. Judge Wetherell, 38, has served as an Administrative Law Judge for the Division of Administrative Hearings since 2002. Rowe and Wetherell will fill the vacancies created by the retirements of Judge Michael E. Allen and Judge Edwin B. Browning.
• The Jacksonville Bar Association will honor the late Judge Peter J. Fryefield, who was known for his love of guitars and blue grass music, by renaming its “There Oughta Be a Law” Lawyer Variety Show to the “Honorable Peter J. Fryefield Law Revue.” The show is Oct. 22.
• U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Paul Glenn and State Attorney Angela Corey were two of the 90 new members that were approved by the Jacksonville Bar Association at its Wednesday luncheon. The JBA is approaching 2,200 members.

• Results from the Florida Coastal School of Law Intramural Mock Trial Competition held Sept. 11-12 at the Duval County Courthouse: Best Advocate, Tenisia Burke; Best Prosecution, Jessica Sexton and Stefan McHardy; Best Defense, Erin Dunnavant and Clarence Sydnor; and Intramural Champions, Erin Dunnavant and Clarence Sydnor.
• Scott Kennelly is the latest associate to join the law firm of Rogers Towers. He will be a part of the firm’s business litigation department and he will focus on commercial litigation, torts and civil practice. Kennelly was a summer associate at Rogers Towers in 2007 and 2008. Most recently, he served as a law clerk to U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Susan Black.
• Kate Bedell is moving her office across Bay Street to the Public Defender’s Office. The former Assistant State Attorney will become the Felony Unit Division Chief at the Public Defender’s office. Bedell served for over six years at the State Attorney’s Office and prior to her departure she was a part of the Special Operations Unit. Bedell earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Florida, Levin College of Law and bachelor’s from Jacksonville University.
