The Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS) has organized the 2010 Furry Faces Pet Photo Contest, a fundraiser for the animal welfare and education organization.
First Coast residents are invited to enter photos of their pets via JHS’s Web site or regular mail. A panel of JHS volunteers will select 50 dog and 50 cat photos as finalists. Humane Society staff will then open the contest to the general public to choose their 12 favorite photos, to include six dogs and six cats.
“We are really excited about this year’s Furry Faces contest,” said Leona Sheddan, executive director of JHS. “As more people track their schedules on smart devices, they no longer need traditional, paper calendars. Many of our donors have requested that we follow this trend. We will now feature the 12 winning photos monthly on our Web site. This new contest format also gives us the chance to go green by eliminating printed materials.”
Photo submissions begin Monday and end Oct. 30. Submissions cost $10 per photo. Photos can include more than one animal, but pictures should not include people. Jacksonville.com will showcase all submitted photos. Visit www.jacksonville.com and search “Humane Society” to view Furry Faces photos.
Public voting begins Nov. 9. Votes cost $1 per entry with a minimum of $10 for online votes. Votes may be submitted via the regular mail with a cash or check. Voting concludes Dec. 17.
The JHS Web site will feature one of the six cat and six dog finalists monthly. The Humane Society will announce the winners Dec. 21. The JHS Web site will feature the first winning pet photo starting Dec. 31. Each month, the Web site will feature a different winning pet photo, with cat and dog photos alternating each month.
