• Singing could be heard throughout the bottom floor of the Hyatt Monday, as members of the Florida-Georgia District of Lutheran Church Ministers began their Fall meeting. The group brought 230 registered guests for the event that lasts through Wednesday.

• There’s still voting to be done. Yesterday, the Duval County Supervisor of Elections Office began conducting early voting for the special general election and Atlantic Beach primary election being held Oct. 6. It’ll continue through Saturday and is available only at the Downtown office. For more information, including whether a precinct is voting, call 630-1414.

• Reggae band Pili Pili will take a trip inland from the Beach Saturday. A regular on the Beach bar and club circuit, Pili Pili will play at Fletcher Park on Atlantic Boulevard from 6-9 p.m. The entertainment is presented by the San Marco Preservation Society.

• Gov. Charlie Crist announced appointments to the Clay County Development Authority Friday. The Clay County Development Authority was established by a special act of the Florida Legislature in 1957 for the principal purpose of promoting economic development of Clay County. The following members were selected: Jan Conrad, 48, of Middleburg, is a banker with Regions Bank; Tom Morris, 54, of Middleburg, chief operations officer with Clay County Utility Authority; Chip Dobson, 53, of Fleming Island, director of passenger and commuter operations with CSX; Paresh Patel, 40, of Orange Park, owner of Welcome Hospitality Hotel; William Randall, 64, of Fleming Island, pastor of St. Simon Baptist Church; John Tabor, 48, of Fleming Island, banker with Community First Credit Union.

• A love of barbecue could win someone and their guests a trip on a Carnival Cruise line. Woody’s Bar-B-Q is hosting a contest from October to November to give away a three-day Carnival Cruise for two to the customer who can best explain why they love Woody’s Bar-B-Q. Each participating restaurant will choose a local winner who will receive a $130 Q-card to dine at Woody’s. Each local winner will be qualified to be in the grand prize drawing for the trip. Customers can e-mail their story or YouTube video to [email protected], or bring a written story to their local Woody’s.
