Leadership Jacksonville will honor community trustees Henri Landwirth and Suzanne Montgomery at its 15th annual Celebration of Leadership dinner April 15. The event starts at 6 p.m. at the Hyatt. Landwirth, a survivor of the Nazi death camps, created Give Kids The World and Dignity U Wear. Montgomery, a psychologist and consultant, is a community leader and volunteer. • Friday the Stubb’s “Feed the World” Tour will be at the Sulzbacher Center at noon. Stubb’s Legendary Kitchen is an Austin, Texas-based barbecue restaurant and its president and CEO will be here to help serve a barbecue lunch at the shelter.
• The Small Business Development Center at the University of North Florida released its 2009 annual report. According to SBDC Regional Director Janice Donaldson, last year the center counseled more than 1,900 people and trained more than 2,600 workshop participants. The economic impact? Access to $9.8 million in capital, 74 business starts, 682 jobs created or retained and an $11.2 million increase in sales.
• In an e-mail to City Council President Richard Clark, Jacksonville Young Democrats announced its opposition to the settlement agreement regarding the City’s contract for landfill services. The group is prepared to campaign against the passage of the agreement and is planning a petition drive and letters to the editor in opposition to the agreement.
