First Wednesday Art Walk always brings out a crowd that likes to stroll the streets of Downtown, visiting galleries and clubs. The August edition is meant to bring out Art Walkers and their four-legged friends with the theme, “Pet Walk!”
In addition to the “Off the Grid” galleries, the Museum of Contemporary Art, clubs, restaurants and other businesses will welcome pets and their people.
One highlight of the evening is the Fifth Annual Pet Walk at the Florida Theatre. Several organizations that advocate for pets and pet adoption, safety and health will display exhibits. Cafe Nola at MOCA will serve dinner alfresco for people and their pets.
The Bee Gallery at the Landing and Chamblin’s Uptown have partnered. The gallery will feature paintings by artist Clair Hartmann and Chamblin’s will host a book signing.
Pets aren’t the only item on the Art Walk agenda this month. Southlight Gallery is presenting “ART RUMBA” with performances by Flamenco dancer Kristelle Monterrosa at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. and a new exhibit by painter Jim Draper. At The Carling there will be a fashion show by Love of Dresses.
In addition to art, there are more than a dozen live music venues, 15 clubs open after 9 p.m. and a dozen pet-friendly venues.
Art Walk is 5-9 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month, rain or shine. For details, call 634-0303 or visit www.downtownjacksonville.com.
