Eric Lycke, senior landscape architect with Haskell, presents one of two “river-friendly” signs that were unveiled Tuesday behind the Haskell building in Riverside. Looking on are Jimmy Orth, executive director of the St. Johns Riverkeeper, and Lane Welch, a member of the board of directors of the St. Johns Riverkeeper. The signs describe how plants on the Northbank landscape help keep the river healthy by reducing the flow of pollutants into it. Haskell volunteered to redesign its Northbank landscape with “river-friendly” plants and grass and install the signs behind its corporate headquarters in Riverside. There are plans for up to eight more signs along the river, and the Riverkeeper and Haskell will be approaching other businesses along the Northbank to ask for participation in the program.
