Tax Collector Mike Hogan challenged about 70 Meninak Club of Jacksonville members and guests Monday to a nine-question quiz called the “Tax Collector’s Test.” Most questions were answered correctly until Hogan disqualified lawyers from responding. Hogan, the keynote speaker, opted to speak from the floor rather than the podium, standing at a front table of empty seats. “I’ll speak from the table of the ‘Friends of the Tax Collector,’” he said. Hogan said his office handles 91 separate types of taxes and fees that can be paid at any Tax Collector locations, processing more than 2 million transactions in 2009, collecting more than $1.9 billion for city, county and state agencies. He said collections increased 37 percent since 2006 while the number of employees fell by 12 percent.
