There were all sorts of dogs big and small Wednesday evening for Art Walk-Pet Walk 2010 Downtown. The annual event celebrates the dog days of summer with the usual art exhibits, plus special exhibits and offers for pets and their people.
Cafe Nola was a popular destination. The restaurant at the Museum of Contemporary Art set up tables outside to accommodate diners and their dogs. While the people sampled from the menu, their dogs enjoyed bowls of cool water and plenty of treats.
The Pawfessionals, the young professionals group of the Jacksonville Humane Society, set up a booth to promote memberships at Hemming Plaza, then the group met at Mark’s on East Bay Street to celebrate its one-year anniversary.
Sharla Valeski, owner of The Next Gallery on Laura Street, also was marking a one-year milestone. Last week, she renewed her lease at The Elks Building.
The next First Wednesday Art Walk is 5-9 p.m. Sept. 1, rain or shine. For information, call 634-0303.
Courtney Powers and Lyndsay Rossman were at Hemming Plaza representing Pawfessionals, the Jacksonville Humane Society’s young professionals group.
Sharla Valeski, owner of The Next Gallery, was exhibiting a painting on cubes that has six different images of dogs, depending how the pieces are arranged. She also just renewed her lease at the Elks Building for another year.
Artist Clair Hartmann was signing copies of her book, “The Downtown Dog Project.” It’s a collection of 100 of her paintings of canines who live in the urban core in Wilmington, N.C.
Meagan Fawcett and Buck the Rescue Ambassador from Canine Services-German Shepherd Rescue were at The Florida Theatre for the Fifth Annual Pet Walk.
