After nearly two hours of discussion on the naming-rights deal between EverBank and the Jaguars, City Council approved an ordinance 14-3 Tuesday night that officially makes the stadium EverBank Field. The City will forgo its 25 percent stake in the five-year, $16.6 million deal. John Winkler (photo), a member of “Team Taxpayer,” spoke against the deal, citing proposed property tax increases and service cuts. Tony Boselli (photo), Team Teal commissioner, was one of the advocates for the deal, discussing the team’s benefit to the city. Council member Ronnie Fussell praised the team’s on- and off-field success but didn’t want the city to give up the additional dollars. Fussell, along with Council members John Crescimbeni and Clay Yarborough, voted against the measure.
