• AMPORTS appointed Gary Salvador as vice president of sales and marketing. Salvador will be responsible for all AMPORTS commercial activities and will be based at corporate headquarters in Jacksonville, reporting to President and CEO Steven Rand. AMPORTS, among the nation’s largest auto processors, operates 13 locations in the U.S. and Mexico.
• City Council President Jack Webb issued a special dress code order for Tuesday’s council meeting. It will be “seersucker night” for members. “It’s our last meeting before Labor Day and everyone knows after Labor Day you can’t wear seersucker,” said Webb.
• The Jacksonville Jaguars need to sell about 2,420 regular season tickets to lift a blackout. As of Thursday, 7,420 tickets needed to be sold, and the Jaguars expect to sell 5,000 of those in group and half-pack sales. The Jaguars needed to sell 50,957 to lift the blackout, and so far sold 38,725 in new and renewed tickets and 4,812 in group sales and half-packs.
• City Council member Ronnie Fussell had a treat for fellow Finance Committee members in need of a pick-me-up during the morning session of Thursday’s budget meetings: a can of energy-boosting nuts. Considering the morning and afternoon sessions each last several hours, the offer was for anyone who might tire of budget talk.
• New business at Monday’s Jacksonville Aviation Authority meeting includes approval of an option agreement with Embraer Aircraft Holding Inc., an amendment to a ground lease deal with FSCJ, a lease deal with the U.S. Navy for a Cecil Field hangar, and an increase in the budget for a runway rehabilitation at Cecil.
• State Sen. John Thrasher officially received a vote of confidence from the Florida Chamber of Commerce. The organization recently endorsed him for his re-election campaign.
