“Winter Wonders.”

That’s the theme for the 2010 Art & Antiques Show to benefit Wolfson Children’s Hospital. It’s the 34th year the hospital’s Women’s Board has presented the event.

The show begins Thursday evening at the Osborn Center with a black-tie gala and preview reception for benefactors. The doors open to the public Friday.

More than 50 of the top antiques dealers in America will be exhibiting and selling their finds this year, said Charlie Miller, show manager.

“The only comparable antiques show outside New York is the Philadelphia hospital show,” he said. “You’d have to do a lot of shopping to see this array of vendors and antiques.”

With benefactors, sponsors and vendors covering the entire cost of presenting the show, 100 percent of the funds collected for tickets goes to support programs at Wolfson Children’s Hospital, said Miller.

Elizabeth Augustus, public relations chair, said there will be a wide variety of prices. “Some people might think they can’t afford an antique, but that’s not true,” she said.

The inside and outside of the convention center will be transformed into a “winter wonderland” with live trees, holiday wreaths and garlands and snowflakes suspended from the ceiling.

Decorations chair Laura Howson said more than 75 live trees and shrubs will create a path into the center at the entrance near the fountain on the west side of building. All of the decorations are for sale. “We are celebrating the beauty of the building,” said Howson.

Augustus said the image of a snowflake on this year’s show catalog and the 2010 theme were chosen for a good reason.

“There’s wonder in a snowflake and wonder in a child. Each one is unique and rare,” she said.
