The final 2010 edition of First Wednesday Art Walk celebrated the holiday spirit with decorations, music and an appearance by the Radio City Rockettes, who are in Jacksonville for a 10-day run as part of the Artist Series at the Times-Union Center.

In addition to the customary exhibits by dozens of local and regional artists, it was also an opportunity to see this year’s “Holiday Windows” displays. While not officially part of the program, the windows at Jacobs Jewelers along Laura and Adams streets were full of fine jewelry, china and other gifts.

Owner Roy Thomas said the store’s decorations are created by a former designer at La Mee Florist and “she’s been doing them for more than 10 years.”

With a 40-degree drop in temperatures from Tuesday to Wednesday evening, the walkers were mostly bundled up, but the nip in the air didn’t keep a large crowd from taking part even before 5 p.m. at Hemming Plaza.

“I think people were looking forward to some cooler weather,” said Downtown Vision Inc. Marketing & Events Coordinator Katherine Moore.

The next First Wednesday Art Walk is 5-9 p.m. Jan. 5, rain or shine.
