• Following six successful seasons as president of the Women’s National Basketball Association, Ponte Vedra resident Donna Orender will step down effective Dec. 31 to launch Orender Unlimited, an independent marketing, media and strategy company. She will continue to serve as a consultant to the league. “Donna’s contributions to the WNBA and women’s sports have been extraordinary,” said NBA Commissioner David Stern. Before joining the WNBA, Orender spent 17 years with the PGA TOUR. She was an All-American basketball player at Queens College of New York and played professionally for three seasons in the Women’s Basketball League.
• The Duval County Supervisor of Elections Office updated the status of 55,185 ineligible voters as of Dec. 3. The process of changing a voter’s status from inactive to ineligible is completed after the 2010 Gubernatorial General Election. Voters placed in an inactive status as a result of undeliverable final notices and who did not vote in the last two federal elections are now ineligible voters. An ineligible voter must re-register with the Supervisor of Elections Office to vote in future elections. Voters can check their voting eligibility by visiting duvalelections.com or by calling the Elections Office at 630-1414.
• Gateway Community Services, in partnership with Florida State College at Jacksonville and Players by the Sea, will bring to the stage the founding of Alcoholics Anonymous with the production of “Bill W. & Dr. Bob.” The play will run Jan. 27-30 at the Wilson Center for the Arts. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Gateway Community Services, which provides drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in Northeast Florida.
• Leadership Jacksonville is asking its graduates and current class members for nominations for the next class of Leadership Jacksonville and for its College Leadership Experience. Nominations are due Jan. 7 for Leadership Jacksonville and Jan. 31 for the college class.
• Gov.-elect Rick Scott announced his “Champions for Achievement” education transition team. It includes Gary Chartrand, executive chair of Jacksonville-based Acosta Sales & Marketing Co. and a board member with KIPP Schools in Jacksonville.
