• Greg Nagel has joined the St. Johns Riverkeeper as education chair. He is responsible for creating and delivering education programs and resources for educators, students and families. Nagel worked at the Oregon Coast Aquarium, Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center, The Florida Aquarium, and most recently as director of Museum Experiences at EdVenture Children’s Museum in Columbia, S.C.
• Gov. Charlie Crist reappointed Duval County Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Margarita Arruza to the District Medical Examiners for a term ending July 1, 2012.
• The Jacksonville Humane Society will break ground at 10 a.m. today for its community animal hospital along Beach Boulevard. The society’s former facility was destroyed by fire in 2007. The hospital will serve as a low-cost veterinary clinic for pet owners in the Jacksonville area. The organization is raising funds through a capital campaign to build a new adoption and education facility.
• American Eagle Airlines will increase nonstop service between Jacksonville International Airport and Miami International Airport with the addition of two new flights effective April 5. American Eagle Airlines is the regional affiliate of American Airlines. The additional flights will bring American Eagle’s daily departures from Jacksonville to Miami to seven. With the addition, there will be 11 daily departures from Jacksonville to Miami.
• Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa hired Matthew Barnes as golf sales manager. He will be responsible for sales and promotion of group golf outings and trips. Barnes previously served as the director of relationship marketing for PGA Magazine.
