• The Fourth Judicial Circuit has named The Jacksonville Bar Association (JBA) as the manager of the Circuit’s Managed Mediation Program. The Florida Supreme Court recently issued administrative order No. AOSC09-54 requiring mediation for foreclosure cases involving residential Homestead property. The JBA was one of four organizations to submit proposals to the Circuit to manage its program. The top two qualifications for managers are, “1. Compliant with ADR principles as promulgated by the supreme court,and ADR statutes and rules; 2. Nonprofit entity or associated with a reputable organization of proven competence, autonomous and independent of the judicial branch.”
• AirTran Airways will begin new nonstop service between Jacksonville International Airport and Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) in Baltimore beginning May 4. An introductory one-way fare is being offered for $74. For this rate, reservations must be booked by Feb. 25 for travel through June 9.
• Publix will open its 54,340 square-foot Nocatee Town Center store next Saturday at 8 a.m. It’ll include a pharmacy, bakery, deli, floral department, seafood department and 1,400 square-foot Publix liquor store and employ 90 people.
• The Cummer Museum has been notified by the Florida Department of State’s Division of Historical Resources that its Cummer Gardens has been officially listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
• Former Mayor and current University of North Florida President John Delaney is the guest speaker at the first Quarterly Cornerstone luncheon of the year. It’s March 16 at the Hyatt.
• The National Association of Industrial and Office Properties will honor a couple of well-known locals at its annual awards meeting March 4 at the Omni. Former Mayor Ed Austin will get the Jesse B. Smith Community Services Award while developer Jack Demetree will get the Lifetime Achievement Award.
• The first Duval County Tourist Development Council meeting of the year is Feb. 18 at 10 a.m. in City Council Chambers. Council President Richard Clark serves as chair of the TDC.
• Gibbs N.Y. Style Subs and Salads has expanded, and now offers its menu at locations in Orange Park and Riverside. The new Riverside location is across the street from St. Vincent’s Hospital at 2545 Riverside Ave. The restaurant also utilizes the pedal power of its tricycle to deliver subs and salads to a select area. • Former TV news producer Cindy Krenek has joined the team at Principle Creative as a public relations specialist. Krenek has more than four years experience in the television news business, which included producing the 6 p.m. newscast at Ch. 12/25.
• The Art Center on West Adams Street keeps an accurate count of Art Walk visitors and despite the chilly temperature and brisk breeze, 1,033 people came through the door Wednesday evening.
• The 5 Points Theatre is showing Super Bowl XLIV Sunday, the first time an NFL game has been exhibited at the venue. Doors open at 6 p.m., admission is free and food and beverages will be available.
