The Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS) is challenging local organizations to form teams and raise money for the animal welfare and education center’s second annual Trail of Tails: Pet Walk & Festival. The top three companies that raise the most money for JHS win naming rights of rooms at the organization’s facility.

“For our first annual Trail of Tails event, many companies competed in a friendly competition that raised much-needed funds to help the animals at the Jacksonville Humane Society,” said Leona Sheddan, executive director of JHS. “Just like last year, corporate teams of four or more people can register for the walk and create donation pages. The team that raises the most money for JHS can name our cat cabana.”

Locally, State Farm is committed to the project.

“The Trail of Tails Corporate Challenge motivated our State Farm employees to not only raise needed funds, but also to create an awareness among our associates, family and friends of the great work the Jacksonville Humane Society does in our community,” said Joy Atkins, public affairs coordinator for State Farm.

The team that raises the second highest amount of money for JHS will name the puppy room. The team in third place, raising the third highest amount of money for JHS, will name the cattery. Naming rights for this competition are good for the organization’s current adoption center only.

JHS’s second annual Trail of Tails: Pet Walk & Festival is Feb. 27 at Friendship Fountain Park. Walkers can register at www.jaxhumane.org prior to the walk. Through www.firstgiving.com/jaxhumane, walkers can create sponsorship pages and invite friends to donate money for their walk.

The walk kicks off at 10 a.m. and will start and end at Friendship Fountain Park. Entrance is $25 per person for team members.  Individual entry is $30 per person. Animals walk with their owners for free. For more information about the Trail of Tails: Pet Walk & Festival, please visit www.jaxhumane.org.
