• Since City offices are closed Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the City Council committee meetings have all been pushed forward one day. That means Finance, Rules and Public Health & Safety will meet Tuesday and Land Use & Zoning, Recreation & Community Development and Transportation, Energy & Utilities meet Wednesday.
• Scott-McRae Advertising has been retained by Florida’s First Coast of Golf to handle the organization’s public relations and marketing. Florida’s First Coast of Golf helps travelers plan golf vacations to include helping with courses and accommodations.
• The Jacksonville Waterways Commission will meet for the first time this year Thursday. It’s at 9 a.m. in Conference Room A at City Hall. The Charter Revision Commission also meets Thursday at 9 a.m. in Council Chambers.
• Spine & Sport, a physical therapy company, will hold the grand opening of its new Jacksonville location Tuesday at noon. The facility is on Bartram Park Boulevard, but the company is based in South Georgia where it has several offices.
• Barack will be stopping in Jacksonville Tuesday. The visit won’t feature the president that recently passed his one-year anniversary in office, but it will spotlight Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus’ baby elephant that was born on the eve of Obama’s inauguration and named after the president. The elephant will appear in front of the Arena at noon.
• Speaking of the circus, one performer won’t just be entertaining fans at the Arena. “The Greatest Show on Earth” features Jonathan Lee Iverson as its ringmaster and Iverson is reported to be the first African-American Ringmaster. Iverson will participate in Monday’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade through Downtown. The parade is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. and the parade route can be seen at www.mlkfdn.com.
