• City Council member Michael Corrigan made his intentions for Duval County Tax Collector official Wednesday. Term-limited, Corrigan filed paperwork at the Supervisor of Elections Office for the 2011 election to succeed Mike Hogan. Corrigan now joins Dick Kravitz, June Schultz and Ryan Taylor in the race.
• The process is under way to appoint a District 13 Council member to replace newly appointed Public Service Commission member Art Graham. Gov. Charlie Crist appointed Graham to the PSC Wednesday, but must fill the District 13 vacancy. Crist press secretary Sterling Ivey said discussions began Thursday morning
• Council President Jack Webb named Corrigan to replace Graham as Council floor leader. Webb also must find replacements for Graham’s other Council duties, including vice chair of the Council Land Use and Zoning Committee and seats on the Council Transportation, Energy and Utilities Committee, the Northeast Florida Regional Council and the Seaport and Airport Special Committee.
• One more from the political circuit: JaxBiz, the political arm of the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce, endorsed State Sen. John Thrasher in his bid for re-election for Florida Senate District 8.
• There may be more pickin’ than paddling at Kayak Amelia’s headquarters at 13030 Heckscher Drive. It will host a “Bluegrass and Fish Fry” at 7 p.m. today. The fish will be served by Guide/Chef George and Jacksonville’s Homesteaders will provide the music.
• Stockholder Relations Director Susan Datz Edelman will leave Stein Mart Inc. at the end of July after more than 17 years of service. She grew up in retailing. Her dad, Bernie Datz, retired in 1989 after a 36-year career with Sears. He moved to Jacksonville in 1972 to manage the old Sears downtown and opened the new Sears in Regency Square Mall in 1981, managing it until his retirement.
• Florida Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate Bill McCollum was in Jacksonville Monday. He stopped off in the morning at the Hyatt restaurant Downtown to chat with Mike Hightower, Deno Hicks, Jay Demetree, John Rood and others. He was later spotted at the UPS Store on Hogan Street where he needed notary services and sent several faxes. He also was heading to the Ponte Vedra Beach Republican Club.
