• The City’s Sunshine Law and Public Records Law Training is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. July 27 in the Lynwood Roberts Room at City Hall. The training will be provided for City Council members and their executive assistants.
• The Jacksonville Port Authority will support the Greater Jacksonville Kingfish Tournament with extended hours for the St. Johns River Ferry. It will run later than usual Friday and Saturday, with the last ferry leaving the Mayport side at 11 p.m. and the Fort George side at 11:15 p.m. For more information, visit www.jaxport.com.
• The partnership between The Core Downtown nightlife venues and the St. John’s Riverkeeper for The Great Pirate Party July 9 raised awareness and more than $200 for the Riverkeeper through the sale of merchandise and temporary tattoos. Participating bars reported an average 20 percent increase in sales as a result of the promotion, said Downtown Vision Inc.
• The Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce and U.S. Small Business Administration will host a workshop about the federal health care bill and drug-free workplaces for small business owners Friday. • The Duval County Public Schools district was one of eight in the state recently recognized as a Florida Healthy School District by the Coordinated School Health Partnership, based on district infrastructure, policies and practices.
• The grand opening of Duval County’s newest high school, Atlantic Coast High School in the Baymeadows/9A area, is 10 a.m. Aug. 4.
