The Jim King Park and Boat Ramp, 8203 Heckscher Drive, was recently dedicated in honor of the the late Florida Sen. Jim King, a longtime advocate of the St. Johns River. Attending the ceremony were (from left) Linda Hould; Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve Superintendent Barbara Goodman; King’s wife, Linda; and Bob Gipson. The park’s amenities include two boat docks, three boat ramps, a canoe launch, a pedestrian dock and available fishing and manatee education opportunities. The almost 23-acre park was a former commercial marina acquired and developed with King’s assistance. It is the site of the annual AT&T Greater Jacksonville Kingfish Tournament, which starts today with the Junior Angler tournament. The two-day general tournament starts Thursday and award presentations will be Saturday.
