• Melissa Ross, host of FM-89.9’s “First Coast Connect,” will receive the 2010 Don Davis Film Finishing Fund $2,000 grant at the Fifth Annual Film Florida Legends Awards tomorrow evening at the WJCT Studios. For tickets, visit www.filmflorida.org.

• Association for Corporate Growth President Matt Laffey told the North Florida chapter on Thursday to check the extent of the BP oil spill by visiting www.ifitwasmyhome.com. The site allows users to move the outline of the spill around the world. Moving it to Jacksonville shows it would stretch from Savannah south to Palm Coast and Gainesville and west to Lake City and Valdosta, Ga. Laffey presented the information as part of a good, bad and ugly report. He put it in the ugly category.

• Florida Department of Transportation District 2 Secretary Alan Mosley will meet with Urban Land Institute North Florida members Thursday to discuss public-private partnerships in transportation projects. ULI North Florida also will release a “Connecting Florida: Transit and Florida’s Economy” study that examines transit alternatives being proposed and built around the state.

• Former Florida DOT District 2 Secretary Charles Baldwin was promoted to president of Ghyabi & Associates in Jacksonville. He joined Jacksonville-based Ghyabi in October. Baldwin is a licensed professional engineer with more than 47 years of experience in the public sector.

• Quick update: The topic for Thursday’s quarterly Cornerstone Luncheon featuring Karen Alderman Halbert, president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for 21st Century Energy, will focus on “The Energy Challenge Ahead.” She will discuss how smart policies can revitalize the economy while creating jobs and protecting the environment.
