• State Solicitor General Scott Makar is back in front of the United States Supreme Court today for his fourth, and last, case during the Court’s 2009-10 term. The case — the fifth for the state overall this term — involves whether a statute of limitations can be extended due to the gross negligence of a prisoner’s attorney in missing a filing deadline. Makar was formerly with the Office of General Counsel.

• Visit Jacksonville President and CEO John Reyes has resigned and is heading to the Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau in California. That area includes Carmel, Big Sur and Pebble Beach. Reyes joined Visit Jacksonville in February 2005. His last day is March 19.

• City Council member and Courthouse Oversight Special Committee Chair Kevin Hyde has set the next four meetings of the committee: March 8, April 12, May 10 and June 7. They are in the Council Chambers and start at 4:30 p.m.

• Speaking of Council, President Richard Clark is holding budget workshop meetings at the five campuses of Florida State College at Jacksonville. They are: March 8 at South Campus, March 18 at Deerwood, March 30 Downtown, April 8 at Kent and April 22 at North Campus. They are from 6-8 p.m.

• In its search for an independent auditor, the City sent out 17 requests for proposals and got six back. That list has been pared to McGladrey & Pullen, Ernst & Young and Carr, Riggs & Ingram. Based on their top ranking, the Council Auditor’s Office will enter into negotiations with McGladrey & Pullen.

• There’s not much time to sign up for the 2010 class of the Chamber’s Jacksonville Regional Political Leadership Institute. The program helps prepare future public leaders through a Leadership School, workshops and networking opportunities, but the last day to apply is Friday. Candidates can register at www.jaxrpli.org.
