• The Jacksonville Ethics Commission voted Monday that, except for small changes, the Jacksonville Sunshine Law Compliance Act should remain as it was originally written. “The overall thought on the proposed law is we like the law the way it was,” said Braxton Gillam, chair of the commission’s legislative subcommittee. The commission also thanked member Patrick Plumlee, who will step down, for his service to the commission. Council President Richard Clark has chosen lawyer Tatiana Salvador as the City Council’s latest appointee to the commission. The selection awaits a council vote.

At Monday’s Jacksonville Aviation Authority board meeting, 2009 Chair Ron Weaver was recognized by current Chair Deborah Pass-Durham for his year leading the board. Pass-Durham called 2009 “an interesting year.”

• Speaking of the JAA meeting, there were nine items on the agenda and it lasted right at 40 minutes. There was talk among some JAA veterans that the 40 minutes may have been a record for brevity.

• Today’s Seaport and Airport Special Committee has been canceled so City Council can conduct a shade meeting to talk about collective bargaining. The next scheduled meeting is April 13.

• Lawyer Bill Sheppard shared a memory of the late Judge Peter Fryefield’s “perfectly dry humor” he came across in a trial transcript. During an intense cross-examination, the bailiff interrupted a question. Bailiff: “Excuse me, one of the jurors is raising her hand.” Madam Juror: “Can I get a new pen?” Judge Fryefield: “I’m sorry, due to budget cuts.”

• Two riverfront projects are on the Downtown Development Review Board’s agenda this week. There’s a request for conceptual review of the Riverside Arts Market dock and a request for extension of final approval for the South Shore Marina and Riverwalk. The board, part of the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission, meets at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Police and Fire Pension Fund building Downtown.
