Victoria Robas, Jacksonville Port Authority Blount Island and Dames Point Terminal director, presented a port update recently to The Civic Round Table. “It’s a very exciting time for us,” said Robas, who outlined the port’s top initiatives for 2010. The five initiatives are river adjustments at Mile Point to assist ships in negotiating the channel; deepening the harbor for the larger post-Panamax vessels; working toward success of the Hanjin terminal at Dames Point; infrastructure and repairs; and determining the future of the cruise ship terminal. In addition, Robas told the 30 group members how the port makes money as a landlord. She said the port’s operations result in 65,000 jobs and $19 billion in economic impact.
