Cloudy skies and a light drizzle didn’t keep the faithful from First Wednesday Art Walk. The evening began damp, but by 6:30 p.m. the skies were clearing and the sun was peeking through.
This month’s theme was “Art on Wheels” and walkers took in a classic car show at the Florida Theatre. It was part of the Second Annual Big George Tribute in remembrance of the late George Wolfe, who operated the barber shop at The Carling and made Art Walk part of his business plan.
Burro at The Letter Shop opened to the public for the first time during Art Walk. It’s on Forsyth Street between Newnan and Adams streets and sells locally made products, including Burro Bags, which are manufactured in the back of the building. There’s a line of T-shirts and jewelry and the Diamond Mine Record Shop shares the storefront.
Wednesday evening was also a chance to visit the Art Center artist cooperative’s new gallery and studios at 229 N. Hogan Street near Hemming Plaza. It’s a completely different look compared to when the “Off the Grid” space debuted in January.
The next First Wednesday Art Walk is 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. June 2, rain or shine.
“Big Dunn” manages Burro at the Letter Shop, the new retail store on Forsyth Street facing the Yates Building.
Sharla Valeski, artist and proprietor of The Next Gallery, was in the Cinco de Mayo spirit for Art Walk.
Guest artist Nancy Asbell is exhibiting her Florida landscapes through the end of May at The Art Center’s Adams Street gallery.
The Art Center has moved into its new space on the second floor at 229 N. Hogan St. The cooperative’s signature skyline mural is still the centerpiece of the gallery.
