• Adm. James Stavridis, Commander of the United States European Command and the Supreme Allied Commander, Europe, told 840 attendees at the 8th Annual Military Appreciation Luncheon on Monday at the Hyatt Downtown that the military must change to deal with the challenges of the 21st century. Changes include “brain-on-brain” warfare by reading, studying, teaching, training, developing new technology and learning more languages. “We will not deliver security for the nation solely from the barrel of a gun,” said Stavridis. But make no mistake, he said. “If we are called upon to deliver lethal force, we will do so professionally, capably and we are the best in the world at it.” The annual event is hosted by the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce.
• Amy Ogden was promoted to director of public relations at Clockwork Marketing Services. Ogden oversees the company’s public relations division and also directs special assignments, including management of the company’s training programs and workshops. Ogden is co-chair of the 2010 Urban Land Institute North Florida Young Leaders Group steering committee.
• Attorney Michael Tanner of Tanner Bishop is running for The Florida Bar Board of Governors Fourth Judicial Circuit Seat 2, which is currently held by Jake Schickel. Schickel has indicated he isn’t running for another term in Seat 2. Tanner recently was voted president-elect of The First District Appellate American Inn of Court and will take office in the summer of 2011 for a one-year term.
