• At noon on Thanksgiving, the Sulzbacher Center will serve a traditional Thanksgiving feast to more than 450 men, women, and children. Volunteers will be serving smoked turkey with gravy, dressing, yams, corn, green-bean casserole, dilled carrots, fresh rolls and pumpkin pie. The meal was made possible by donations from the community. The Chartrand Family sponsored the meal, Publix provided turkeys, Tombo’s smoked the turkeys, and the Junior League worked with the children living at Sulzbacher to create table centerpieces. The Sulzbacher Center provides assistance and support for homeless men, women and children.

• With “FINS - The Movie” in the hands of the editor, the director, who is Circuit Judge Jeff Morrow, has begun working on a new project, “Red Dot Compliance.” Professional and amateur actors gathered Sunday night at Three Layers Coffeehouse in Springfield to begin shooting scenes for the movie.

• Local gadfly John Nooney isn’t just talking about how vacant riverfront property and waterways can benefit Downtown development. He is also showing people through kayak tours of Hogans Creek, which runs between Maxwell House and the Arena, and McCoy’s Creek, which runs beneath the Florida Times-Union property. He was spotted in Hogans Creek last week. “There are a lot of great opportunities Downtown. We just have to have the foresight to take advantage of them,” said Nooney.

• Dec. 4 will be Jacksonville’s 4th Annual Downtown Historic Church Tour, featuring 10 historic churches and the Main Library. The tours are 1-5 p.m. and tickets are $5 a person, free for children 12 and under. For information, visit www.downtownjacksonville.org. Tickets will also be sold at the Main Library Saturday. • Fifth Third Bank and the Jacksonville Urban League partnered to provide Financial Wellness within the community on Nov. 18. The Fifth Third Bank Mobile offered free financial literacy and banking information, including free credit reports and credit counseling, money management and budgeting advice, checking and savings account information and homeownership assistance.

• Children’s Safe Passage, a child advocacy organization committed to the prevention of child abuse through education, presented a $23,000 donation to the Monique Burr Foundation for Children Inc. The donation will be used to fund the foundation’s education and child abuse prevention programs taught in schools.

• Gov. Charlie Crist reappointed Karen Hartz, area manager for Early Head Start with Episcopal Children’s Services, to the Florida Interagency Coordinating Council for Infants and Toddlers for a term that ends Jan. 1, 2013.
