• The Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce’s next CEO Nexus Forum is scheduled for 7:30– 9 a.m. Nov. 3 and will feature M.G. Orender, Hampton Golf co-founder and president. • The opening of the new Bryan-Gooding Planetarium at the Museum of Science & History, originally scheduled for Oct. 23, has been delayed because the new seats have not yet arrived. The revised opening date is projected for mid-November.
• While “Wedding Singer” fans might be disappointed that the show is no longer playing at the Alhambra, the shows go on. “The King and I” debuted Wednesday and will run through Nov. 28. It’ll be followed up by the season’s final show, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” in December.
• Golf fans: One year after being announced, the Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open is right around the corner. The Nationwide Tour tournament tees off Monday and ends Oct. 24 at TPC Sawgrass and is the final full-field event of the Nationwide season. The tournament has a $600,000 purse, with $108,000 going to the champ.
• Clarification: Regarding a story on the Ethics Bill before the City Council published Oct. 13, City Council Auditor Kirk Sherman does not directly have subpoena power, but if the Council Auditor’s office suspects impropriety and is denied access to records, it can contact the State Attorney’s office.
• Speaking of golf, The Players kicks off its “Giving Back Month” at 1 p.m. Nov. 1 at TPC Sawgrass. Event staff, Mayor John Peyton and other officials plan to be on hand to announce the total charitable dollars generated from the 2010 The Players and will visit select nonprofits throughout the area and award grants.
• Meals on wheels: The manhunt in Clay County also led to the Salvation Army rolling out its Jacksonville mobile canteen midday Wednesday to serve police and other emergency personnel. As of midday Thursday, the canteen served nearly 800 meals to 200 officers and emergency responders.
• The 37th Annual Antique and Depression Glass Show & Sale is Saturday and Sunday at the Fraternal Order of Police Building on Beach Blvd. There will be book signings by authors Barbara and Jim Mauzy and seminars on glass collecting. • The newest Publix, a 45,600-square-foot supermarket at 5858 Atlantic Blvd., officially opened Thursday. It replaces the one that closed in the same location Jan. 23 and will employ 98 people.
