How did you get involved?
Bill and Renee Harrell strongly encourage attorneys and employees of the firm to give back to the community. In the case of the NFMLP, Renee Harrell, a Jacksonville Legal Aid board member, and Kathy Para, an attorney with Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, identified a need and felt that I could be of help. My intention is to continue to provide pro bono service to NFMLP. The Friends of 440 Scholarship Inc. is a statewide organization consisting of workers’ compensation practitioners, doctors, insurance adjusters and the like, that provides college scholarships. Last year, the Friends of 440 awarded more than $100,000 in scholarship funds to 47 college-bound students. My involvement with the Friends of 440 is an extension of my practice with the local workers’ compensation bar.
How can someone else get involved?
For NFMLP, call Kathy Para, Esq., at 356-8371, ext. 363, or visit www.nfmlp.org. For Friends of 440, call Ray Holley, Esq., at 346-5422 or visit www.440scholarship.org.
What have you learned/achieved through the experience?
An NFMLP patient/client will now be able to obtain much-needed medical treatment and pay for essential living expenses. College became a little more affordable for a Friends of 440 Scholarship recipient.
