This week marks the 23rd year the Southern Women’s Show has made a stop in Jacksonville. The doors open today at the Osborn Center for four days of exhibits, instruction, fashion shows, free samples, prizes and shopping.

The show is a “huge temporary shopping center,” said Elisha Jernigan, show manager.

“We have more than 300 vendors and thousands of products here this year,” she said. “We’ve got clothing, accessories and cosmetics. There will be cooking demonstrations and free samples. You can also get a makeover and a haircut,” she said.

“You’ll find things here you won’t see anywhere else and many of our vendors are offering the three words women love to hear: ‘gift with purchase.’”

This year’s special guests include Food Network celebrity chef Sandra Lee, who will be on stage at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday in the Grand Lobby. From the “Top Chef” show, Kenny Gilbert and pastry specialist Erika Davis will demonstrate their skills in the kitchen.

Jernigan said while the show is focused on the female segment of the market, there are features for men to enjoy as well.

“You can test-drive a new Chevrolet and get free Starbucks coffee, and The Poker Room at Orange Park Kennel Club is sending a dealer to the show to give Texas Hold ‘Em lessons,” said Jernigan.

New this year, Walgreens is bringing a mobile health-screening lab and is offering $140 worth of tests at no charge, said Jernigan. Bealls department stores will give away 200 shopping bags at 5 p.m. Saturday, and one will contain a $500 gift card for a shopping spree.

“It’s a lot of entertainment and value for the $10 admission price,” said Jernigan.
