In other lodging news, last-minute travelers are expected to boost the number of people visiting Jacksonville for the Georgia-Florida game.
“We are currently experiencing about 90 percent occupancy for rooms Downtown and about 60 percent outside of Downtown,” said Lyndsay Rossman, senior director of corporate communications for Visit Jacksonville.
“People who might have decided not to come this year could change their mind the day of the game, come down and stay the night,” she said.
Rossman reported that most of the hotels Downtown require a two-night stay for the weekend, but she said most of those outside of Downtown don’t.
The decision to attend this year’s game is affected by a couple of factors, Rossman said. First, the economy hasn’t recovered from the recession yet and people are still holding onto discretionary income. Second, both teams aren’t as strong as they have been in previous years, so fans are wondering if it’s worth the trip.
“I think it’s going to be a great game and we should have some great weather for it this weekend,” said Rossman.
