How did you get involved?
I was a competitive swimmer during college and needed to do something active during law school. I heard about Team in Training, which provides training for endurance events in exchange for fundraising. I completed my first triathlon and after that, volunteered as a coach. After my experience with Team in Training, I wanted to get more involved in the community, so I joined The JBA and tried to get involved in things that interested me, such as the Rendezvous on the River Committee and Holiday in January. The rest is history.
How can someone else get involved?
Just ask! No one will turn down an extra helping hand. Joining local organizations will help, too. These organizations are an invaluable pipeline to the community.
What have you learned/achieved through the experience?
Volunteering your time is always an eye-opening experience. You come into contact with so many different people, people who really need help and are so appreciative. It is such a humbling experience and something that I feel keeps me very grounded.
What was the last book you read or are reading?
I am a James Patterson junkie, “The Postcard Killers.”
