The Jacksonville Suns began their 27th season last weekend and wrapped up the first home stand of the 2011 with a “Businessperson Special” game Monday versus the Huntsville Stars at The Baseball Grounds.
It was the first of nine Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday day games on the home schedule this season.
Suns President and General Manager Peter Bragan Jr. said Southern League visiting teams like ending a road trip to Jacksonville with a day game because they can head home immediately afterward.
It’s also a chance for fans to see a game during the week and an opportunity for corporate hospitality on the party deck and in the luxury suites.
The Suns begin a 10-day road trip tomorrow to face the Jackson (Mississippi) Generals and the Mobile (Alabama) BayBears, then return to The Baseball Grounds April 22 for five games against the Tennessee Smokies.
April 25 is “Dog Day,” said Bragan, when canines on leashes are welcome at the game. April 27, there’s another day game with the first pitch set for 1:05 p.m.
Monday’s unseasonably warm weather brought a lot of people to the game in shorts and T-shirts but as Bragan pointed out, “there’s always a breeze at the ball park.”
