• During a visit to City Hall Wednesday to witness the signing of the City’s Law Day Proclamation, Fourth Circuit Chief Judge Donald Moran discussed with Mayor John Peyton the creation of a time capsule in recognition of the opening of the New Duval County Courthouse.
• After the Law Day Proclamation signing, Peyton revealed that he didn’t think there would be a ceremonial opening of the courthouse before he left office in June. Although the mayor had repeatedly stated during his second term that he wanted to “walk through the front door” of the new Duval County Courthouse before his term ended, the latest construction update has the project being completed in about a year, he said.
• Florida Coastal School of Law, The Jacksonville Bar Association, the American Immigration Lawyers Association and Jacksonville Area Legal Aid will celebrate the 4th Annual Citizenship Day tomorrow. About 100 legal permanent residents are expected at Coastal Law for Citizenship Day 2011, with about 25 local attorneys offering free legal services and an additional 50 law students assisting with applications. Last year, more than 80 individuals applied for U.S. citizenship.
• The Riverside Arts Market starts water-taxi service tomorrow that will ferry fans from Friendship Park on the Southbank to the market across the St. Johns River on the Northbank. The service runs 10 a.m.-4 p.m., making stops at docks at the market, the Landing and Friendship Park. Look for RAM banners on the rails of the ferry.
• Tomorrow also will be the second year that the University of Phoenix March of Dimes Carnival is held at the Riverside Arts Market.
