The Jacksonville Bar Association welcomed a new friend and said goodbye to three others at its April meeting Tuesday at the Hyatt.

The lunch meeting began with remembrances of recently departed members of The Jacksonville Bar Association. Judges William Durden and Jefferson “Jeff” Morrow, and Smith Hulsey & Busey Partner and former president of the Jacksonville Bankruptcy Bar Association Ray Magley were memorialized by Circuit Judge Charles Arnold, attorney Tom Edwards and attorney Stephen Busey, respectively.

Eleventh Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Joel Dubina was the guest speaker for the event.

While he warned the membership of the “crisis” in the federal court system caused by the slow pace of the approval process for appointing federal judges, he also encouraged those in attendance to take time to enjoy life and not “schedule your life away.”

The JBA Professionalism Chair Mark Bajalia announced that nominations are being accepted for the association’s professionalism award. The award will be handed out at the June luncheon.

Catherine Berry, Scott Glazier, Stephanie Jackson, Isabelle Lopez, Scott Mahlman, Claude Revels III, Tom Schodowski and Josh Wright were approved for membership with The JBA by a vote of the membership at the luncheon with no objections.
