The official theme for the August First Wednesday Art Walk is “Now We’re Cooking” to acknowledge the Aug. 15-28 “Eat Up Downtown” restaurant promotion.

Café Nola at the Museum of Contemporary Art will be serving samples of its promotional menu and a block down Laura Street, chefs from Renaissance World Golf Village will be serving snacks at Visit Jacksonville.

In between, Snyder Memorial will be transformed into a movie theater with showings scheduled for 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. of the Academy Award-winning animated feature, “Ratatouille.”

Burrito Gallery, Benny’s Sandwich Shop, Chew, Chamblin’s Café, Farah’s Uptown, International Café, Olio, Koja Sushi, Northstar “The Pizza Bar” and Zodiac Bar & Grill will be open for dinner.

Wednesday also marks the debut of “Pop-up Galleries,” part of the “Art in Strange Places” project by sculptor Dolf James and friends.

The temporary galleries will be set up at Main Street Park near the Main Library, where there also will be a projection artist and a casting call for an upcoming theater production.

The Pop-up Galleries, featuring the work of 17 local artists, will be installed through Aug. 17 in the park between Monroe and Adams streets.

At the other end of Art Walk, artist Jason Campioni is hosting “Show and Tell at TSI” at the club along East Bay Street near Liberty Street. The evening’s entertainment includes visual art, music and perhaps comedy.

“Every month it’s something different. TSI is a great place to finish Art Walk,” said Campioni.

First Wednesday Art Walk is 5-9 p.m., rain or shine. Maps are available at Hemming Plaza or visit www.downtownjacksonville.org.
