The theme for Wednesday’s Art Walk was “Now We’re Cooking” to remind people about the Aug. 15-23 “Eat Up Downtown” restaurant promotion, but it could just as easily have been “Hot August Night.”

Nevertheless, hundreds of artists and visitors explored Downtown from Hemming Plaza to the St. Johns River.

Many made sure to view the latest “Art in Strange Places” installation in Main Street Park behind the Main Library. Sculptor Dolf James and several of his artistic colleagues and friends went to work early Wednesday morning installing a series of “Pop-up Galleries” in the park. They will be on display through Aug. 17.

It was the final Art Walk for Southlight Gallery at its location on Forsyth Street. One of the largest “Off the Grid” galleries, Southlight is moving this week and will host next month’s First Wednesday Art Walk at a new space on the second floor of the Dyal-Upchurch Building at Bay and Main streets.

It’s on the National Register of Historic Places and where the Push 2 Gallery was located several years ago.

The next First Wednesday Art Walk is from 5-9 p.m. Sept. 7, when dogs are invited to bring their people Downtown. The centerpiece of the evening will be the 5th annual Pet Walk at the Florida Theatre.
