The “Going Places” fashion show and fundraiser returned to Jacksonville Thursday to advance opportunities for women in transportation.

The Northeast Florida Chapter of Advancing Women in Transportation Seminar hosted the event, which featured volunteers from the business community modeling fashions from Stein Mart and Phil’s Shoes at the Jacksonville Port Authority’s cruise terminal.

“It’s a fun event for a good cause,” said Kathy Wade, chapter president. “We are glad we were able to bring it back for a second year.”

Last year’s “Going Places” event raised $10,000 for the WTS scholarship fund that assists women pursuing careers in transportation.

Taking the current economy into account, the organization wants to raise about $5,000 this year.

Attendees dined on food prepared by Anthony’s Gourmet Catering, bought chances for door prizes and were entertained with a fashion show featuring volunteer models from the local business community.

“It was fun participating and helping the community,” said Roy Schleicher, port authority executive vice president.

As a member of the Florida Legislature, Rep. Lake Ray is no stranger to appearing before crowds, but the catwalk was a different type of public appearance.

“It was a lot of fun and I enjoy supporting the effort to help women pursue careers in transportation and logistics,” said Ray.

The Women’s Transportation Seminar was founded in 1977 as an international organization dedicated to the professional advancement of women in transportation.

With about 4,100 members, including men, it strives to help women find opportunities and recognition in the transportation industry.
