• Bernice King, the youngest daughter of Martin Luther King Jr., is scheduled as the keynote speaker at the 25th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast Jan. 13 at the Osborn Center. • Shahid Khan made big news last week by agreeing to buy the Jacksonville Jaguars, but football fans don’t need the reported $760 million he’s paying to become part-owner of an NFL franchise. The Green Bay Packers announced the fifth stock offering in the history of the franchise. The sale will start at 8 a.m. Tuesday. Shares will be priced at $250 each and will be available online for purchase with credit or debit cards. The Packers will initially offer 250,000 shares and the proceeds will pay for improvements to Lambeau Field.
• Stephanie Ambs, Ross Chafin, Michael Johnson and Brian Zargham joined the Smith Hulsey & Busey law firm in Jacksonville. They earned their law degrees in 2011 from the University of Florida Levin College of Law. Ambs joins the bankruptcy and litigation practices. Chafin joined the real estate and land use practice. Johnson joins the litigation practice and Zargham joins the business law and health care practices.
• The JAX Chamber and Building America’s Future Educational Fund plan to co-host a forum about Jacksonville’s transportation infrastructure from 8-10 a.m. Jan. 5 at the Hyatt Downtown. The forum will examine infrastructure investments and their regional and national impact on the economy, job growth and quality of life. • The CoreLogic analysis firm reported that for the third quarter, 45.2 percent, or 149,423, of all residential properties in Jacksonville were in negative equity, down slightly from 45.9 percent, or 151,810 properties, in the second quarter.
• Individual tickets for the inaugural season of the Jacksonville Bullies, the city’s new North American Lacrosse League Franchise, went on sale last week. The Bullies will compete in six home games at the Arena. The first home game, against the Kentucky Stickhorses, is 7 p.m. Jan. 28.
• The Jacksonville Sharks of the Arena Football League want fan input for the championship DVD. The team is asking for fans’ home videos of the Sharks’ Arena Bowl Championship celebration Downtown so the team can include the segments in a bonus feature of the DVD. • Outgoing Associated Industries of Florida CEO Barney Bishop is opening a government relations firm based in Tallahassee. Barney Bishop Consulting LLC will provide government relations counsel and representation on local, state and national issues, with a focus on business issues, including space, transportation, energy and oil exploration and economic development. Bishop led Associated Industries of Florida since January 2005.
