• Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll is scheduled as the guest speaker Jan. 13 for the NAIOP of Northeast Florida lunch meeting at the Hyatt Downtown. • Cohen Construction Inc. is handling the shell construction for Planet Fitness at 6881 Old Kings Road S. at a project cost of $289,491. Tenant improvements will be sought under a separate permit.

• Auld & White Constructors LLC is handling interior renovations for office space at 4168 Southpoint Parkway, Suite 302, 4,915 square feet, at a project cost of $125,000.

• The Jacksonville-based HDR Engineering consulting firm appointed George McGregor and Wes Dortch as assistant vice president and Mark Roberts was named senior professional associate.

• The City approved roofing projects: Barber & Associates Inc. will handle roofing for McDonald’s USA LLC at 9841 Atlantic Blvd., at $31,100, and at 5911 New Kings road, at $17,000; Metro Property Services Inc. will handle roofing for Encore Healthcare at 1650 Fouraker Road at a project cost of $68,500.

• The Breast Clinic at Mayo Clinic’s campus in Florida has been granted a three-year, full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, a program administered by the American College of Surgeons.

• A drawing is planned Thursday to win a signed football by Jacksonville Jaguar Marcedes Lewis, No. 89. Proceeds will benefit the Jaguars’ charity of choice, Community Connections, and the Paralegal Association of Florida – First Coast Chapter. Tickets are $1 each or eight tickets for $5. • The North Florida Transportation Planning Organization Board elected Nassau County Commissioner Danny Leeper as chairman for 2012, succeeding Clay County Commissioner Doug Conkey, who served two terms. Atlantic Beach Mayor Mike Borno, who represents the three Beaches communities, has been elected vice chairman succeeding Leeper and St. Augustine Commissioner Nancy Sikes-Kline has been elected treasurer succeeding Borno.

• The Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville elected new members to serve on its board of directors. Allison Korman Shelton, director of corporate marketing and public relations for Stellar, has been elected to serve as the chair for a two-year term beginning in fiscal year 2011-12. New board members are Cathy Chambers, Brandon Choy, Abel Harding, Lisa Rinaman and Tom Serwatka. It also elected executive committee members.

• Speaking of the Cultural Council, it is seeking nominations for the 36th Annual Arts Awards in the categories of business, individual, educator and small business. The deadline for submissions is Feb. 9. Winners will be announced at the Arts Awards in May. For information, visit

• U.S. Reps. Corrine Brown and Ander Crenshaw and Mayor Alvin Brown plan a grand opening reception Monday at the Allied Veterans’ Center at Atlantic Boulevard and Acme Street.
