Online job advertising in Northeast Florida fell 6.3 percent in November from October while increasing 5.9 percent over the year.
For the month, the number of online advertised vacancies dropped by 1,320 positions, from 20,807 jobs in October to 19,487 in November.
Postings rose by 1,091 positions from November 2010, when ads totaled 18,396, to November this year.
The numbers come from WorkSource, which covers the region of Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau, Putnam and St. Johns counties.
“November is usually the month where hiring in most industries slows”, said Candace Moody, WorkSource vice president of communications.
“The seasonal hiring bump is over, and fewer workers leave their jobs in the last few weeks of the year, a time when they often earn bonuses,” she said.
“The year-over-year positive trend is more significant than the monthly variation right now,” she said.
WorkSource reported that since the official end of the recession in June 2009, online demand in the region has increased by 5,180 jobs.
It reported that labor demand, as measured by online advertised vacancies, bottomed out in January 2009 in the region. Since then, demand has increased by 8,643 openings.
Job postings continue to remain most prevalent in customer service, health care, computer systems, sales and truck driving.
The monthly report comes from data collected by The Conference Board, a New York-based nonprofit source of economic information.
