How did you get involved?
I became involved in Communities In Schools as a result of juvenile justice work at the State Attorney’s Office. I was asked by a friend to join the Ronald McDonald House board.
How can someone else get involved?
Both agencies are always looking for volunteers. Communities In Schools is always in need of mentors for students. The Ronald McDonald House can always use meals for families and supplies for the House. If you are interested in either agency, let me know by an email at [email protected]
What have you learned/achieved through the experience?
The most significant thing I have learned is that volunteering for worthwhile agencies means as much, if not more, to the volunteer as it does to those who benefit from the effort. At CIS, I have seen the tremendous impact that a caring adult has on child who needs some extra support to reach his or her goals. At RMHC, I have seen the triumph of the human spirit in tough times and the comfort it gives children and families to know that there are people there who care and can help.
What was the last book you read or are reading?
“The Rembrandt Affair,” by Daniel Silva.
