Hemming Plaza Jewelers marked its 4th annual “Elf Day” Wednesday. It’s the day each year during the holiday shopping season when the staff dresses up like Santa’s helpers.

Juan Gonzalez and his brother, Kirk, opened the business in 2003 on Hogan Street and then moved in 2007 to their present and larger location at Hogan and Monroe streets.

Since then, they have opened a diamond showroom on the second floor and expanded the jewelry repair and design area.

Gonzalez said the store has recently added computer-aided jewelry design services to complement the more traditional discipline.

“Now we have both the Old World and the 21st century,” he said.

Gonzalez said the business has increased every year and he’s glad to be where he is and not in a suburban mall.

“Downtown has been very good for Hemming Plaza Jewelers,” Gonzalez said.
