Jacksonville Jaguars owners Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver, members of the team and The Roar cheerleaders distributed boxes of holiday meals Tuesday to about 200 members of the community at the NFL Youth Education Town in the city’s Brentwood area.

They were joined by Second Harvest North Florida organizers in handing out the meals, consisting of a turkey, stuffing, green beans, corn, cranberry sauce, cornbread and, for the first time in its three-year history, fresh fruits and vegetables, including apples, oranges, potatoes and carrots.

Some boxes that did not include a turkey did include a $10 Winn-Dixie Stores gift card.

There was no shortage of needy families. Cars lined the street and people stood in line for a couple of hours before distribution began.

“The turnout is large,” said Shannon Perry, president of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida.

“That means the needs in the community are also great,” she said.
