• Mayoral candidate Alvin Brown will bring some national power to town Monday. Former Vice President Al Gore is scheduled to attend a fundraising reception for Brown, a Democrat, at 1:45 p.m. at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 177 Hall on North Liberty Street, according to an e-mail from Brown.
• The Jacksonville Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association’s monthly luncheon will feature “Building Bridges – The issues and challenges of creating harmony after a divisive governor’s race.” It’s 11:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m. Thursday at River City Brewing Co. and will feature Mayor John Peyton’s Chief of Staff Adam Hollingsworth, who served on Gov. Rick Scott’s transition team.
• JetBlue Airways officially opens its 31st inbound and outbound cargo station today at Jacksonville International Airport. Carl Shipsky, JetBlue’s manager of system cargo sales, and Steve Grossman, executive director and CEO of the Jacksonville Aviation Authority, will do the ribbon-cutting honors. The event is 10 a.m.
• “Reclaiming Young Black Males for Jacksonville’s Future” is scheduled Saturday at the Main Library Downtown. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m., followed by the program, which runs 8:15 a.m.-2 p.m., with lunch provided. Organizing committee co-chairs are Barbara Darby and Cleve Warren.
• Second Harvest, Feeding America and Bank of America are planning “Exploring the Impact of Child Hunger on Academic Success,” a discussion featuring John Cook from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Feb. 17 at The River Club Downtown. The event is sponsored by Acosta Sales & Marketing. Cook is associate professor of pediatrics at Boston University School of Medicine and co-principal investigator at Children’s HealthWatch, a research group.

• Lynne Graley joined Jacksonville-based Advanced Disposal Services Inc. as operations analyst. She will work from the corporate office, providing financial and operating analysis for both corporate and field management. Graley has more than 20 years of financial analysis experience, most recently working for Advantus Corp and before that, Vistakon, a division of Johnson & Johnson Vision Care Inc.
