The second Art Walk of 2011 Wednesday brought a small but devoted crowd of artists and visitors Downtown.

The theme for the evening was “performance art” and at several venues, dancers and musicians added to the artsy ambiance.

It was also an evening for fine art photographer Istvan Pono to preview his new gallery at the Landing. Part of the “Off the Grid” program, Pono Visual Expression has moved into space 106 near Sports Mania and Bee Gallery.

Pono exhibited some of his photographs of smoke, water drops and close-ups of nature subjects.

Born in Hungary, he moved to the United States 13 years ago following a career in ballet and theater. Pono is now focusing on what used to be his hobby, digital photography.

“I’m an odd fellow who doesn’t fit into any particular category,” he said.

At Southlight Gallery, several artists are showing work with a heart theme, appropriate for February. The artists in the collaborative are offering a 10 percent discount on any purchase this month at the gallery on West Forsyth Street near Laura Street.

At the Museum of Contemporary Art, Susanna Richter-Helman previewed her exhibit at Lab Gallery that opens with a reception scheduled for 6 p.m. Feb. 10. It’s a collection of mixed-media three-dimensional art and paper collages installed in light boxes.

The next First Wednesday Art Walk is 5-9 p.m. March 2, rain or shine.
