• Former Jacksonville Port Authority CEO Rick Ferrin joined the Jacksonville office of TranSystems as vice president. The company is an engineering and consulting firm in the transportation and logistics industry. Ferrin will focus on developing business and serving the firm’s clients in the Southeast and Gulf Coast regions. Ferrin joined the JPA in 1997 as port director and was appointed CEO of the JPA when it separated from the airport. He stepped down last year. TranSystems is based in Kansas City, Mo.

• Mayor John Peyton appointed Dane Grey to the Jacksonville Human Rights Commission. City Council, which meets today, must approve the appointment. Grey stated in his biography that he is the owner/operator of Elite Parking Services of America and is a graduate of Jacksonville University.

• Jerry Mallot’s No. 1 prediction for the decade was on target, raising expectations for his other nine. Mallot, the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce economic development chief, successfully predicted Jan. 21 that the Green Bay Packers would win this past weekend’s Super Bowl. Other more immediate predictions on his top 10 list include that Rick Scott will be the most aggressive Florida governor in job creation since Jeb Bush and that the financial services, professional and business services, logistics and medical services industries will lead area employment growth this year. Another sports-related prediction for the decade: The Jacksonville Jaguars will win a Super Bowl.
