The Young Lawyers Section’s first annual “Super Chili Bowl Charity Cook-Off” will be March 5 between noon and 6 p.m. at the Florida Coastal School of Law.

This will be a day of fun, chili and charity. Teams will cook their best batch of chili to compete for the “Super Chili Bowl” trophy as determined by popular vote and local celebrity judges from the community.

The staple course will be complemented with beer, wine, desserts and live music from Electric Otter, featuring The Jacksonville Bar Association’s own Casey Stripling. In addition, there will be a silent auction.

All funds raised from the cook-off will benefit The Sanctuary on 8th Street, whose important work has been recognized by the local media and Jacksonville’s business and philanthropic community.

Tickets to the event are $15 and are now on sale. You can order your tickets through the Young Lawyers Section or purchase them the day of the event.

Also, the Young Lawyers Section is still accepting sponsorships from local law firms and businesses. We are offering three levels of sponsorships: Habanero, Jalapeno and Poblano, which will be included on all promotional materials.

Your sponsorship also includes admission tickets to the event. Additionally, our Habanero sponsors are provided a full team entry.

You can find out more about how your firm or business can sponsor the event or buy tickets to enjoy the event by visiting www.YLSChiliCookOff.com. You can also call me at 798-2614 if you have any questions or would like to volunteer for the event.

With your help, the Chili Cook-Off will be a tremendous success and provide a solid foundation for a long-running tradition. The event is modeled after the Tallahassee Bar Association Chili Cook-Off, which had its 14th installment in 2010.

If history has shown us anything, the members of The Jacksonville Bar Association love good food, a good time, and a good cause – all of which you will find at the upcoming “Super Chili Bowl Charity Cook-Off.”

Don’t worry about all the great food and beverages you will eat at the cook-off, you will have a great time working them off at the Run For Cover April 2 at Riverside Park. There is a 1-mile “fun run” that starts at 5:30 p.m. and the 5k starts at 6 p.m.

There will be a dermatologist on-site providing free skin cancer screening.

The funds raised by Run For Cover will benefit the Florida Skin Cancer Foundation. Last year, about 400 local runners were a part of this great event.

Contact Pat Kilbane at 598-9929 to find out how you can participate.
